Preventative care
At Newbury Vet Clinic, we wholeheartedly believe that prevention is the best medicine. Regular (annual or semi-annual) appointments are a great way to stay ahead of potential issues, and track health and aging progression. wellness exams usually include a comprehensive review of your pet's health via physical exam, and time to address any concerns or questions you may have about their health, behavior, or care. Vaccines will also be given at these appointments if due, and it's a great time to discuss flea, tick, and heartworm prevention plans!
Make an appointment!
Please note: We operate by appointment only to ensure that each client and pet gets the time and care they deserve. In the event of client tardiness, we will endeavor to see you as soon as we can - most likely between the regularly scheduled appointments later in the day. This may mean a short wait, but we must prioritize those clients who are present and on-time for their regularly scheduled appointments. If you arrived after your assigned appointment time and are unable to wait until we have an opening, we can generally offer that your pet board with us for the day so that the doctor can see them whenever they are available. In that case, we would have you return later that day during business hours to pick up your animal and discussion of the visit would take place over the phone or at time of pick-up rather than in an exam room like a typical appointment. Thank you for your understanding!
Kitten and Puppy visits
Young pets (<1 year old) will typically require regular visits with your veterinarian to ensure that their growth and health are maintained. The vaccination protocol for young animals is different than that used for adult animals due to their age and developing immune system, so a typical puppy or kitten visit may include vaccines, parasite control, and/or diagnostic testing that is less frequent in adulthood. Typically, we schedule young animal wellness appointments at the 8-, 12-, and 16-week old benchmarks to ensure that we can start them on a path to success early in life. These exams are also a great way for your pet to be socialized and get accustomed to being handled before they reach adulthood, so that they are more comfortable with exams and medical care in the future.

Senior pet care
Though pets in all stages of life benefit from regular exams and care, senior pets often require extra attention as their bodies start to show signs of aging and the possibility of geriatric disease increases. They'll need more frequent wellness check-ups, lab work, and often dental care to increase the chances of catching disease or illness earlier.
Some diseases and issues that disproportionately affect older animals are:
